Brody, a Labrador Retriever puppy of 12 weeks old, is currently employed as a therapy dog by the Bristol Police Department in Rhode Island, USA.
On his inaugural day at work, the puppy woke up early to get ready for his induction ceremony. However, he appeared to be fatigued due to being anxious all night about his significant first day. As a result, he dozed off instead of participating in the ceremony as a department member.
Brody felt at ease when he was among his new colleagues, so he peacefully dozed off while they performed the induction ceremony behind him. “We placed him on the desk, and he was so content that he lay down and drifted off,” Officer Keith Medeiros, who handles Brody, said.
“He plays vigorously and sleeps soundly,” Medeiros told The Dodo. “When he’s not playing, he’s asleep, which is somewhat challenging because he sleeps for extended periods.”
According to the police, Brody will take part in events with the town’s schools. “We are thrilled for Brody to interact with the people in our community, and we are eager for him to meet the students in the Bristol-Warren Regional School District,” Medeiros stated.
They also mentioned that having a therapy dog like Brody will augment their community initiatives and help alleviate stress and anxiety for both witnesses and investigators.
“People, particularly in law enforcement, are experiencing high levels of stress,” Medeiros stated. “Just by bringing Brody to the police department, individuals promptly become cheerful and experience an improved mood. They desire to pet him, embrace him, and it is a genuinely positive experience.”
