The great thing about treasures is that not everyone can exploit them or comprehend their true value. Additionally, what makes treasures great is that they are not only precious metals or currency, but can also be living creatures, as is the case with the horse in this story.
This story is about a rescue horse named River, who was worked to exhaustion by his previous owner. The neglectful owner then left him abandoned by the river in Modesto, thinking he could no longer profit from him.
Fortunately, the horse was found by rescuer Bobbi Carne on June 24, 2019, during the night. She immediately took him to Taylor Vet for treatment. Sadly, the horse’s condition was dire, as he weighed less than 500 pounds due to severe malnourishment.
The following day, Bobbi reached out to HYH (Hold Your Horses) for assistance. Fortunately, the rescue organization acted quickly to become River’s legal guardian. They were also able to cover his recovery costs including supplements, supplies, feed, and veterinary expenses thanks to the generous donations they received.
They also placed him in a foster-to-adopt ranch, which put him on a special diet to help him regain weight. Fortunately, all of the horse’s needs and wants were provided to ensure his comfort in his new home.
With the assistance of acupuncture, farrier visits, and multiple veterinarian visits at Los Caballos Equine Practice, River’s health improved significantly. Carne discovered that River was a rare breed, and a healthy horse of his breed can cost more than $300,000. Additionally, if River had a pony, its value would be more than $100,000, making him a valuable treasure indeed.
