Animals typically avoid human settlements, especially large animals like elephants. They tend to keep a safe distance from humans. However, this is not always the case. A video that is gaining popularity on the internet shows how animals, including elephants, are increasingly assimilating into human spaces. The video depicts an elephant stopping a truck on a highway to eat sugarcane.
On Twitter, Dr Ajayita, a user, shared an endearing video of an elephant halting a loaded truck on a highway. Although the precise location of the video is uncertain, the signboard in the video that reads “Caution Elephant Crossing” indicates that the incident occurred somewhere in Thailand.
In the video, a solitary elephant waits by the road, observing as numerous cars pass by. When it spots a delivery truck loaded with sugarcane, the elephant rises and stops the truck with a loud trumpet. Recognizing the live obstacle in the road, the truck comes to a stop.
As the truck halts, the elephant approaches the cargo at the back and selects a trunk full of sugarcane sticks. Once the elephant has taken its share of sugarcane, the truck continues on its way. However, the ritual doesn’t end with just one truck. The elephant seems to be aware that trucks loaded with sugarcane pass by frequently on the road, so it waits for one after another, stopping them to satisfy its appetite.
