A 52-year-old individual from Costa Rica named Chiro is affectionately known as the ‘Crocodile Man’ after he formed a friendship with a giant crocodile named Pocho, whom he rescued from near death. Chito stated that Pocho does not see him as a threat, as they know each other well. He added that Pocho makes eye contact with him, which indicates recognition and prevents any attack. However, Chito acknowledges that Pocho may still be dangerous to others.
It all began on the banks of the Parismina River, in the Caribbean province of Limon, around 20 years ago when Pocho was saved from imminent death. He had been shot in the left eye by a cattle farmer who was safeguarding his cows. Chito, who rescued the crocodile, shared that Pocho weighed only 150 pounds at that time. He nurtured him back to health with a diet of fish and chickens, along with providing medication for about six months until he made a full recovery. Today, Pocho weighs a hefty 980 pounds.
Chito, who now interacts and plays with Pocho, had to share a space with the crocodile at night during the recovery process. Chito expressed his satisfaction in saving Pocho, who seems to be content with him. It’s truly amazing! Check out the video below.
