This narrative about a beloved Colombian lion called Jupiterr, a cherished lion from Colombia, who gained significant recognition during his residency at the animal sanctuary known as Refúgio Villa Lorena.
Ana Julia Torres, a caretaker responsible for looking after a diverse array of animals including an ostrich, a spectacled bear, a crocodile, jaguars, a multitude of colorful birds, spider monkeys, 9 Bengal tigers, 4 lions, and a chimpanzee, shared that each of these creatures has experienced abuse.
Out of the 800 animals at the refuge, Ana expressed that Jupiter held a special place in her heart. She recounted how Jupiter, who was saved from a circus, had endured the painful removal of his claws and suffered from abuse.
Consequently, the negative experiences with humans caused him to lose faith in their kind, but once Ana began tending to him, everything took a turn for the better!
Ana Julia Torres attends to numerous mistreated animals at a sanctuary in Cali, Colombia, and among them is the lion known as Jupiter. A significant portion of these creatures had once belonged to incarcerated drug traffickers.
However, once Jupiter made a full recovery, authorities made the decision to relocate him to Los Caimanes Zoo in Monteria. This was primarily due to insufficient documentation on Ana’s part to retain custody of the lion.
Regrettably, his health deteriorated significantly after his relocation to the zoo, resulting in substantial weight loss. Consequently, he was transferred to Cali Zoo to undergo treatment, yet his liver cancer proved more formidable than his resilience. Thankfully, he had the opportunity to have one final encounter with Ana before his passing in 2020, evoking a deeply emotional reunion. The heart-wrenching scene left everyone in tears.
