Parents are the most devoted guardians of their offspring and will go to great lengths to protect them. Similar instincts and emotions can be found in animals as well. A heartwarming video that has recently surfaced on social media depicts elephants making a valiant effort to rescue their calf from drowning in a pool of water.
The video, originally shared by a user named Gabriele Corno, was filmed at Seoul Zoo in South Korea.

In the video, a juvenile elephant and its mother can be seen quenching their thirst by drinking water from a pool, when suddenly the calf slips and falls into the water. The mother elephant becomes frantic and makes desperate attempts to pull the calf out of the water. Fortunately, another elephant rushes to their aid, and a third elephant behind the fence is seen pacing anxiously, trying to reach the others and offer assistance in rescuing the young elephant.
Meanwhile, the calf struggles to keep its trunk above water, seemingly drowning. Soon, the two adult elephants work together, entering the pool and supporting the calf to prevent it from drowning. They guide the calf towards the shallow end of the pool, and their joint efforts prove successful as the calf is saved.
Since the video was shared, it has garnered over 500,000 views, 4,438 retweets, and more than 34,000 likes. Internet users were deeply moved by the video, praising the quick thinking and selflessness of the elephants that resulted in saving the calf’s life. Many also commented on the kind, compassionate, and emotional nature of elephants.
One user wrote, “What remarkable, beautiful, and compassionate animals. Yet, some people still believe animals have no thoughts, feelings, or emotions.” Another commented, “Elephants are truly the best! Their society is so well-organized because it is led by the females.” A third user said, “Every mother shares a deep empathy for her child. She can go to any lengths to help her child in distress.”
A fourth user wrote, “Nature is truly amazing. You could see another elephant in the background pacing back and forth, desperately wanting to join the rescue efforts.” Yet another added, “Elephants are highly intelligent, with great memories, and are known for their strong family bonds. That’s why they are my favorite animal! I love them so much that I even have an elephant pendant.”
