Over the course of several weeks, Stray Rescue of St. Louis received numerous calls about a homeless dog roaming in a neighborhood. Residents were aware that the dog had recently given birth, but the whereabouts of her puppies remained unknown. However, Stray Rescue of St. Louis acknowledges that during their search for the puppies, many kind-hearted neighbors provided food for the mama dog and reported sightings, ensuring that she and her puppies remained nourished and safe.
After diligently following the mama dog, whom they affectionately named Muffin, for several weeks without any signs of her puppies, Donna spotted her on the porch of an abandoned house and decided to investigate. To her delight, she found Muffin and her babies at the top of the stairs, with the pups eagerly nursing. Donna estimated that the puppies were approximately 6 weeks old.
“She emitted a warning growl, but never made any aggressive moves,” the rescue organization shares about Muffin. Eventually, Muffin allowed Donna to leash her and guide her out of the home. Her seven adorable “mini muffins” followed closely behind. Once the family was safely back at the shelter, they received the care they needed. Muffin was given a much-needed bath, as she turned out to be one of the “stinkiest dogs” the rescue had ever rescued. Despite her odor, she also proved to be one of the sweetest dogs.
“She is the most kind and gentle mama,” the rescue organization writes. “Her puppies are now going to foster care, as they are too old to continue nursing. Mama Muffin is also ready to go to a foster home, where she can receive endless pampering and affection. She did it. The nightmare of living on the streets is finally over. What a remarkably strong, brave, and selfless girl. We are in awe of her resilience.”
