We always find joy in witnessing acts of kindness towards animals. It’s a genuinely selfless task, as animals rarely express their gratitude for a good deed.
However, on certain occasions, animals have endearing ways of showing their appreciation to those who rescue them. This was the case with a kangaroo who extended a paw for a handshake to the men responsible for saving him.
As reported by Daily Mail Australia, David Boyd noticed a kangaroo in Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin. The water was incredibly cold, and the kangaroo was unable to escape.
Fortunately, two courageous onlookers ventured into the icy waters to assist the kangaroo and bring it to safety.
The individuals proceed cautiously to avoid startling the kangaroo. As they approach and attempt to grasp its limbs to guide it to safety, the kangaroo begins to thrash its arms.
However, undaunted, the men manage to secure the animal and guide it out of the water.
Another individual joins in to assist in hoisting the kangaroo onto solid ground, providing support to keep the frightened and trembling animal calm.
Despite their seemingly gentle nature, kangaroos can become dangerous if they perceive a threat. They possess defenses such as a forceful punch resembling that of a boxer, sharp claws, and a kick known to experts as potentially capable of disemboweling a person.
Fortunately, this particular kangaroo appeared to comprehend that these men had arrived to offer assistance. In a touching moment, it even extended its paw as if to initiate a handshake.
“Aw, he’s showing his gratitude,” the person recording the rescue is heard saying.
As per Daily Mail Australia, the kangaroo was in a state of “shock” and required approximately thirty minutes to settle down.
However, as reported by Courier Mail, bystanders mentioned that the kangaroo eventually hopped away, appearing uninjured by the incident, continuing on its way.
