Snow leopards, often referred to as the “ghost of the mountains,” are renowned for their elusive nature as they inhabit the snowy peaks of the Himalayas. Due to their infrequent sightings and rare captures on camera, a recent glimpse of a family of snow leopards in Ladakh has taken the internet by storm. Parveen Kaswan, an officer of the Indian Forest Service, shared a mesmerizing video on Wednesday, showcasing a snow leopard’s skillful pursuit and struggle with its prey.
He posted the video with the caption, “What a remarkable hunter.”

This is not the only recent snow leopard video to gain viral attention; just a few days ago, another video depicting a snow leopard with its two cubs also gained widespread popularity.
It’s a mother with two cubs. Snow leopards are most adaptable to high & cold altitudes. They are known for their acrobatics including running on steep slopes and long jumps.

The video showcases snow leopard cubs playfully dashing across the mountain and joyfully reuniting with their mother upon hearing her call. Later in the video, the family can be seen snuggled closely together.
According to information from the WWF website, snow leopards are sparsely distributed across 12 countries in central Asia, and they thrive in high, rugged mountain landscapes. In India, snow leopards are primarily found in the high-altitude, mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. These solitary and skilled predators are capable of hunting prey up to three times their own weight in challenging terrains.
Snow leopards are a rare and endangered species, facing threats such as poaching for their skin, bones, and other body parts.
