The presidential inauguration has always been a breeding ground for sensational stories.
With Donald Trump being sworn in for his second term as President, all attention was focused on Capitol Hill yesterday, January 20, eager to see what controversies might arise as a new chapter in U.S. history begins to unfold.
As expected, there was no shortage of speculation and viral moments. One particularly notable incident involved Donald and Melania Trump, where the First Lady seemed to turn away from her husband when he missed the chance to kiss her during the ceremony.
Before his crucial speech, which followed his oath of office, Trump and Melania attended the traditional church service that signifies the inauguration’s commencement and the official conclusion of the previous administration.
In front of the cameras, Trump appeared to lean in for a kiss, a rare display of public affection. However, Melania, sporting a striking hat that obscured much of her face, turned her head, causing his gesture to fall short.
This moment inevitably ignited a flurry of theories and discussions online, with many speculating about Melania’s actions. Was she deliberately avoiding her husband’s kiss, or was it merely a coincidental turn of events witnessed by the world?
Body language expert Judi James offered her insights on the situation, explaining to Paddy Power that Donald Trump arrived at the inauguration with a “slow alpha presence” and a “mouth shrug smile,” which conveyed a serious and somber attitude towards his new role.
James noted that when he reached Melania, he “gently” took her hand in a way that resembled a romantic gesture typically seen during wedding ceremonies.
As for the kiss, she remarked, “He leaned in to kiss his wife, and for a brief moment, it seemed like he was aiming for a lip-to-lip kiss. Melania leaned in to respond but turned her face slightly, opting for a kiss on the cheek instead of on the lips.”
James described it as a ‘heart-stopping moment’ that could be seen ‘as if their timing was slightly off.’
On the other hand, Melania’s outfit faced criticism online for being perceived as too somber for the celebratory event of her husband’s return to the Oval Office. With a dark boater hat casting shadows on her face and a high-necked ensemble, the first lady’s fashion choices were questioned by many, with some comparing her appearance to that of a “mob wife at a funeral” and labeling it “Dark Maga.”
There have been ongoing rumors suggesting that Melania will not reside full-time in the White House during her husband’s second term, opting instead to divide her time between Washington and New York, where their son, Barron, is currently studying.
Donald Trump’s Commitments
Donald Trump’s inauguration speech was filled with ambitious promises, as one might anticipate. Among his numerous bold declarations, he committed to addressing immigration immediately, asserting, “I will initiate the largest deportation program in American history to remove criminals.”
“I will save every city and town that has been overrun, and we will imprison these dangerous and ruthless criminals before swiftly expelling them from our nation.”
Trump also expressed his intention to make previously classified government documents public, including those related to the assassinations of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr. Additionally, he mentioned exploring potential pardons for many individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.
The new president also indicated a desire to eliminate birthright citizenship, although this could prove challenging due to its constitutional basis, and to cut federal funding for schools teaching what he termed “inappropriate” subjects.
“On my first day, I will sign an executive order to eliminate federal funding for any school promoting critical race theory or transgender issues,” Trump stated, as reported by NPR.
