Creepy pile of thick translucent worms sniffed out by dogs on beach walk

A pile of weird worm-like jelly has been found by a dog-walker on a beach.

The disgusting-looking translucent stuff was spotted by Katie Tootell while she was out taking her pets for a stroll on Monday.

Katie, who was walking on Traeth Lligwy, on the Welsh island of Anglesey, initially thought the worms were a washed-up dead jellyfish, but when she took a closer look she saw it was something much more unusual, reports North Wales Live.

The creepy jelly mass was about 25cm long, made up of loads of worms. Inside each one were hundreds of tiny dots.

“The dogs spotted it first and when they started to sniff it I thought they’d just come across a jellyfish, but when I saw it up close, I didn’t have a clue what it was,” said Katie.

“I’ve been coming to the beach for 12 years and I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

The small white dots inside the capsules were actually squid eggs.

These eggs are normally anchored to the sea floor but on this occasion they seem to have got loose and washed up on the beach.

Although washed-up squid eggs are not a common sight on beaches, it is something that does happen from time to time – unfortunately spelling doom for the animals.
