A Canadian couple triggered extensive public anger when a photograph surfaced showing them sharing a kiss over the body of a magnificent lion they had shot and killed during a controlled hunt.
Darren and Carolyn Carter chose to commemorate their act of killing with a kiss and a photograph. Legelela Safaris, a South African company specializing in trophy hunting arrangements, shared the image on Facebook along with the caption, “Diligently laboring under the scorching Kalahari sun… impressive achievement. A colossal lion.”
The unsettling picture rapidly spread across the internet, garnering numerous reposts and eliciting varied responses. “This is far from bravery or coolness. It’s an act of extreme cowardice. What profoundly sorrowful individuals to end the life of such a majestic and magnificent creature,” tweeted Dr. Lauren Gavaghan.
The magnificent male lion was yet another innocent victim, forced into a restricted space and ruthlessly killed for the amusement of trophy hunters. Canned hunting encompasses the practice of breeding and raising animals in captivity solely for the purpose of being slaughtered by trophy hunters, and it must be outlawed!
Xpose Trophy Hunting declares, “The embracing couple comprises Darren and Carolyn Carter from Alberta, Canada. They hunted down and killed three captive lions in a single day. They operate a taxidermy business named Solitude Taxidermy on Facebook. 🤬🤢”
An individual expressed, “Utterly repulsive… If taking the life of a lion brings you satisfaction, you have a sick mind!!” Another person shared, “Do you know who else preserves trophies from their victims? Serial killers.”
Oilergirl expressed, “I am utterly disgusted and shocked by these individuals. It’s purely a matter of amusement, and it’s completely abhorrent. This must come to an end immediately!”
Legelela Safaris’ website is currently unavailable, showing a “Bandwidth Limit Exceeded” message. However, the company has taken down all their social media pages.
The couple faced numerous death threats and subsequently deactivated all their social media accounts and business website. Mirror briefly interviewed Darren, who stated, “We have no interest in commenting on that matter. It’s too political.”
Instances like these are far too prevalent, where individuals pay a significant sum of money to kill innocent animals. The first step should be a global ban on all trophy hunting imports.
