There are numerous dogs in shelters, and they all simply desire one thing: to discover their forever homes. But unfortunately, it can take some longer than others.
Whether it’s their breed, age, appearance, or health conditions, many dogs continually get overlooked by adopters, often in favor of younger, more conventionally adorable puppies.
But sometimes a kind-hearted individual comes along and opens their heart to these dogs. For one shelter pit bull, that kind-hearted individual was a 2-year-old girl, who selected him out of all the dogs in the shelter.
When Audra Spurio brought her 2-year-old daughter to the shelter to adopt a dog, she never expected she would be drawn to a sick and mangy pit bull. But the toddler, sensing the dog needed a little affection and attention, insisted.
“My daughter was more eager to meet her than any other dog at the shelter that day,” Audra shared with The Dodo. Even though she remembers the dog had an unpleasant odor, the little girl persistently insisted, “Mommy, that one.”
“Release the doggy. Require assistance,” Gigi said.
Thus, the girl’s desire was fulfilled, and Gigi accompanied the pit bull outside for some playtime. Although the dog exhibited fear and shyness, the toddler displayed affection and remained patient throughout.
Numerous children might have been repulsed by the dog’s circumstances, but Gigi perceived only a companion in need of assistance.
Engaging in outdoor activities, it was evident that the two developed a genuine, immediate connection, as the girl bestowed kisses and belly rubs upon the dog.
“I witnessed this apprehensive dog surrender to G’s touch,” Audra remarked. “She refused to let my daughter depart from her presence.”
After the pit bull was returned to her enclosure, Gigi persisted in imploring her mother to bring the dog home, expressing their desire to provide care for her. “Bring the sick doggy home,” the two-year-old pleads.
Fortunately, the young girl’s wish was granted. Among all the dogs present at the shelter that day, it was the sick pit bull who captured her heart, and the dog, now known as Scarlett, has found her new residence.
“Scarlett is currently in her new home and experiencing significant improvement,” Audra shared with The Dodo. “She continues to stick close to G and refuses to let her out of her sight.”
The heartwarming tale has amassed nearly 14 million views on YouTube, and numerous commenters have expressed that Gigi’s empathy towards animals has instilled hope within them for the future.
What a sweet, caring child. We’re so glad that Scarlett found someone to love and care for her and found a perfect home.
