It was a snowy Friday when Michigan Humane received a call about a dog spotted resting in the snow on the side of the I94 freeway. As the team drove to the location of the sighting, they saw a white and black bull terrier peering down from an embankment as snow fell around them.
The officers cautiously ascended the snowy embankment to approach the dog, whom they have named Rudy. Rudy appeared unsure at first, as if he didn’t understand what was happening or whether he should trust these individuals.
Michigan Humane posted a video of Rudy’s rescue:
Fortunately, one of the humane officers was able to persuade Rudy to come closer with kind words and by crouching down to his level. It was at this moment that Rudy decided to trust her and went straight over to her.
After she was able to safely secure him, Rudy’s demeanor changed and he realized that the rescuers were there to help him get out of the cold.
He doesn’t resist when being led and even allows the humane officer to lift him into the van, which was fortunate considering how slippery and hazardous the embankment by the freeway was!
Upon arriving back at the shelter, the initial action Rudy took was to snuggle up in his rescuer’s lap and warm up.
One week later, Michigan Humane provided an update that Rudy is “adjusting comfortably and receiving abundant love and attention from our team.”
The handsome boy is now wearing a smile on his face.
They are providing him with ample playtime to keep him entertained.
And they informed the Dodo that he’s a “sweetheart” who enjoys spending time with people and playing in our play yards. He has also interacted with other dogs while in our care and has shown an interest in getting to know them. He delights in yummy snacks, such as stuffed KONGs and hot dog pieces, as well as going for walks.
Rudy is currently in a temporary foster home while Michigan Humane assesses his personality and prepares him for adoption.
