A curious bear turned out to be quite a camera enthusiast after appearing in hundreds of “selfies” on a wildlife camera in Colorado.
“Out of the 580 photos captured by the camera, approximately 400 were bear selfies,” tweeted Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks team on Jan. 23. They mentioned that the bear appeared to have taken a keen interest in the camera, resulting in an unexpected photoshoot.
“In this case, a bear displayed a keen interest in one of our wildlife cameras and took the opportunity to capture hundreds of ‘selfies’,” Phillip Yates, a spokesperson for Open Space and Mountain Parks, informed NBC News.
“These pictures brought us joy, and we thought others would find them amusing as well,” said Yates.
The bear’s photos range from glamour shots to ones where it is seen sticking out its tongue and waving “goodbye”. The trail camera is one of several motion-activated cameras used by park officials to identify and monitor “critical wildlife habitats” in the region.
The cameras, according to park officials, “activate when an animal appears in front of them.” The data collected helps identify significant wildlife habitats.
It is somewhat uncommon for this bear to be awake and active (not hibernating) during this time of year, but he/she certainly knows how to make a lasting impression.
