The Atlas Moth is indigenous to regions including China, India, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and shares its name with Atlas, the Titan god of Greek mythology.
A video featuring an Atlas Moth has become viral, and it has left several people on social media amazed. Numerous individuals have found it difficult to accept the moth’s size, and many are convinced that the video is a hoax. However, that is not the case. As one of the biggest moth species in the world, the Atlas Moth can have a wingspan of up to 12 inches and a total surface area of up to 62 square inches, making it appear larger than a human hand.
Tansu Yegen posted the moth video on Twitter. The video shows the enormous moth, which looks like a butterfly, resting on someone’s hand while fluttering its wings. Mr. Yegen wrote, “The Atlas butterfly, discovered in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Malaysia, is the world’s largest butterfly with a wingspan of 30 centimeters. The butterfly’s wing surface, adorned with a cobra snake figure, reaches 400 square centimeters.”
