Introducing Moya, an extraordinary and widely recognized white lion boasting an exceptionally magnificent mane.
This remarkable predator is a member of the Glen Garriff Preservation lion sanctuary in South Africa.
The six-year-old lion was captured on camera by Simon Needham, a British wildlife photographer, who was initially taken aback by Moya’s appearance.
“I have a great fondness for animals, and Moya’s remarkable fur left me in awe the moment I laid eyes on it,” he expressed.
“Approaching him was challenging, but I managed to seize a few excellent opportunities when he ventured close enough for me to capture some remarkable shots while he strolled through his domain.”
“When you’re immersed in the present, it’s challenging to fully grasp the beauty of everything, but of course, upon reflection, I realized the incredible quality of the photographs we had taken.”
While white lions are not uncommon in the conservation area, they are extremely rare to encounter in the wild.
Their distinctive coloration is attributed to a genetic variation known as leucism, which bears resemblance to albinism but with less pronounced effects.
Simon expressed his aspirations for his photographs of Moya to contribute to increased awareness about the sanctuary and the challenges faced by lions in their natural habitat.
He commented, “I see this story as a means of promoting conservation awareness and shedding light on the grave challenges faced by many iconic animals that teeter on the verge of extinction in their natural habitats.”
“If I can play a small role in contributing to this cause, I consider it a great honor to be able to help,” he further added.
Simon operates as a director and accomplished photographer, selling his work and generously allocating 50% of the proceeds towards conservation efforts.
“I’m genuinely delighted that we can shed light on this subject and simultaneously provide support to GG Conservation,” he expressed.
