This is the astonishing moment when an elephant decides to rest across the road, resulting in a traffic congestion.
The determined creature in Nakhon Ratchasima, located in northern Thailand, caused a delay of approximately 20 minutes for Nattawat Patsungsing on his way to work.
To prevent provoking the majestic Indian elephant and triggering a charge, Mr. Patsungsing, who was filming the animal from his car, had to stop at a safe distance and maintain silence.
You can observe the animal’s legs and ears gently shifting as it peacefully transitions in and out of a profound sleep.
Eventually, the elephant elevates its trunk and rises onto its hind legs.
In the video, you can hear Mr. Patsungsing saying, “Oh dear… you’re occupying the entire road. Could you please move, my friend? I really need to get to work.”
After the elephant, known as Nga-Thong, stands up, it maintains a watchful gaze on Mr. Patsungsing as he cautiously reverses his vehicle.
Officials indicate that during colder seasons, the elephant is frequently seen reclining on the concrete to absorb warmth.
As per the driver, local wildlife officials informed him that the elephant’s name is Nga-Thong, which translates to “golden ivory” in Thai.
“Nga-Thong prefers not to expose himself when the road is bustling with cars and noisy buses, so it’s usually park rangers who catch a glimpse of him. They mentioned that he’s quite timid.”
“I patiently waited for about twenty minutes until he finally stood up. It made me late for my shift at work that day, but I was delighted to have such a close encounter with him.”
