Dogs are our best friends, and they often form a strong bond with kids as well. Can you believe that a dog is willing to accompany his 3-year-old buddy during timeout so that he won’t feel lonely? Just like true friends, they go through good times and tough times together, playing and staying by each other’s side even during discipline by parents.
When an Ohio mother decided to put her 3-year-old son, Peyton, on timeout to reflect on his unacceptable behavior of hitting his 5-year-old sister Ryleigh during a fight, she never expected the family’s dog to join him. Jillian Marie Smith gave Peyton two options: to stay in his room or have a timeout, and the little boy chose the latter.
But something amazing happened. As Peyton served his timeout, the family’s dog, Dash, came over and joined him, as reported by Good Morning America (GMA). Dash stood beside Peyton, and the little boy put an arm over his loyal friend. Dash simply didn’t want his boy to feel lonely.
Smith happened to witness this heartwarming scene and quickly snapped a photo.
“I happened to have my phone with me when he was in timeout and took the picture,” she told GMA.
She then shared the photo on her Facebook page with the caption, “When you’re in timeout but your best buddy won’t let you serve your time alone.”
Smith mentioned that their English Mastiff dog may have sensed that Peyton was feeling lonely.
“I couldn’t stay mad for long because it was just adorable how Peyton wrapped his arm around Dash,” Smith told The Dodo. “When Peyton had to go to timeout, I think Dash knew he needed his buddy.”
Dash was not the only one who decided to join his best friend during timeout. Many pet owners commented on Smith’s photo, which has now been shared more than 51,000 times, mentioning that their dogs have done the same thing.
“I have a little Beagle that won’t let my 8-year-old twin do timeout alone,” wrote a user.
Another person shared that their pit bull does the same when they make their kids stand in the corner, with the only difference being that the dog faces the wall with them. “It’s the most adorable thing ever, dogs are so sweet!” the social media user added.
Smith spoke to the Chinese edition of The Epoch Times and mentioned that Dash has been by Peyton’s side since the little boy was 3 months old. Since then, the furry companion has brought a lot of joy to the family, especially to Peyton.
Each time Peyton needed to leave, he would assure Dash, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon. Don’t be sad.” And when he returned, Peyton would excitedly exclaim to his best friend, “Hey bro, I’m back! Missed you so much!”
Smith, a resident of Norfolk, shared with TODAY Parents that her son frequently engages in dress-up games with their 230-pound (approx. 104-kilogram) gentle giant, Dash.
“Peyton dresses Dash in superhero costumes and they play fight scenes,” Smith said. “I don’t think Dash fully understands, but he lets Peyton do whatever.”
Smith added that Peyton and Dash are always inseparable, and when she can’t locate her son, she just needs to find where their dog is.
