Anaka, a gorilla at Zoo Atlanta, is a unique and fascinating animal. While she possesses strength, gentleness, and intelligence like other gorillas, what sets her apart is the distinct pink pigmentation on her fingers.
According to Zoo Atlanta, Anaka can always be easily identified in Taz’s family group because of her unusual finger coloring.
The pink hue on Anaka’s fingers gives her a more human-like appearance compared to her fellow gorillas.
Recently, photos of Anaka taken during her 6th birthday celebration at the zoo have been circulating online, with particular attention being paid to the close-up shots of her pink fingers.
The zoo reports that Anaka, the 22nd gorilla born in The Ford African Rain Forest, is a descendant of the legendary late Willie B. She has distinctive pink and white coloring on her fingers and a unique personality, often vocalizing to her mother and others to secure a prime spot for food and juice. She is frequently spotted riding piggyback on her siblings.
Humans and gorillas share many similarities, such as opposable thumbs, unique finger and toe prints, and nails instead of claws. They both have the ability to walk upright and use tools to make complex tasks easier.
The zoo affirms that Anaka’s lighter pigmentation is due to a birthmark and not vitiligo, as some people have speculated. Moreover, her distinctive feature of pink fingers is not present in any of her family members.
