Rebecca Shaw’s life changed a little over a year ago. She adopted 2 cute pet pigs named Hamlet and Mary, who now live with her in Connecticut.
“I have adored them ever since,” Shaw told The Dodo. “They are amazing.”
But, a recent event showed just how extraordinary Hamlet and Mary truly are.
Hamlet and Mary were lounging in their enclosure recently when an uninvited visitor arrived. The visitor was a bear, and he made himself known without hesitation.
Upon seeing the unexpected visitor, Hamlet and Mary banded together to defend their territory.
The bear likely underestimated the pigs and was caught off guard by their bravery. Mary valiantly fought back after being pounced on, and Hamlet then stepped in to permanently drive the bear away. Amazingly, neither pig was harmed during the scuffle.
Shaw has always cherished her pigs, but after watching the footage of their courage, she loves them even more.
“Thank goodness they weren’t hurt as it could have been much worse,” Shaw said. “Usually Mary is the protector, and Hamlet is scared of his own shadow, but I’m really proud of him for showing his bravery. I’m so happy and proud of them.”
