Losing a beloved human is hard on any dog, but especially senior dogs. Oftentimes, the dogs are surrendered to a shelter and must grieve alone in an unfamiliar place.
This is sadly what Cooper, a 22-year-old poodle mix, is going through.
The sweet boy’s mom passed away unexpectedly, and he hopes someone will come along and give him a loving home for the rest of his life.
While he waits, he is being showered with love and affection from staff at Young at Heart Senior Pet Rescue in Woodstock, Illinois. The shelter took to TikTok in hopes that social media would help find this senior a new family.
They posted a video of Cooper devouring food and prancing around showing this old guy is still young at heart. They wrote, “Hi, I’m Cooper, and yes – I’m 22 years old! I ended up at Young at Heart after my mom passed away unexpectedly. Everyone is really nice here, but an old boy like me sure would love a quiet forever home and loving family to spoil me silly for the rest of my days. If you live within 150 miles of Woodstock, IL, fill out an adoption application and come meet me!”

One viewer wrote, “Omg 22?? That’s incredible! I didn’t even think it’s possible for a dog to live that long 😮 and he’s so spunky! He deserves the best home ❤️❤️”.
Even though Cooper has the heart and spirit of a younger dog, age has taken a toll on his body. But that doesn’t stop him from eating, getting around, or snuggling. “I’m good with other dogs, do well with wearing a belly band inside so I don’t pee in the house, and even though I don’t have any teeth, I can still eat wet food like a champ. Even though I am a little rickety these days, I take daily meds for those so I am comfy and still totter around with my younger buddies, and I take daily eye meds too,” shared the shelter.
The only thing this “Super Senior” is missing is a family. He still has so much love to give. Anyone in the Woodstock area interested in adopting this handsome fella can make an appointment with the shelter to meet him.
Seniors are often overlooked in shelters and that is why Young at Heart’s mission is to rescue and offer sanctuary for senior dogs and cats. They believe that “Love Has No Age Limit”.
