The community is grieving the sudden loss of an 18-year-old high school student who passed away during her graduation ceremony.
According to sad news, Sienna Stewart, who is 18 years old, was found to have heart failure in April. She had a transplant ten years ago and had been dealing with severe cardiomyopathy since she was 4. Sienna started feeling unwell earlier this year.
The aforementioned transplant had reportedly allowed her to live a “lived a fairly typical life for a decade,” but the young woman then started “becoming tired and moving more slowly.”
Saevon Chum’s mom shared that her daughter had moments when she would fall down, and she had one of those moments at her graduation on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
In a video that Hiram High School posted, the principal is yelling, “Can you wait a second? We’re helping a student right now, just give us a second…”
When Saevon arrived, the aramedics were already assisting her daughter. “When I reached there, the ambulance was already present,” the mom remembered. “She had collapsed. It was another episode, but this was the first time she fainted and lost consciousness.”
After a few minutes, Sienna woke up and made the choice to go to her ceremony instead of going to the hospital.
Saevon said that all she told him was, ‘I just want to graduate, I want to walk.’ That’s all she wanted, because she missed her prom when she was in the hospital before then and missed her senior prom.
Unfortunately, Sienna passed away on Wednesday, June 12, just a couple of weeks after getting her diploma.
Saevon said, “I’m really proud as a mom because she pushed through something that was painful. I have to be proud. I was proud until the very end.”
According to Sienna’s obituary, the girl was going to go to college and was going to study sonogram technology in the fall.
Rest in peace, Sienna Stewart.
